What we know so far about Google’s self-driving cars
Updated July 25, 2018 12:18:23Google is working on its own self-drive car and is not just a partner in the development, the tech giant announced Tuesday.
The company is partnering with BMW to bring its driverless technology to market, and is also developing its own versions of the vehicles for its own cars, Google said in a blog post.
It said it is partnering to develop a self-parking system for BMW’s vehicles that will be able to safely travel from Point A to Point B with the help of its driver assist systems.
Google is expected to reveal more details about its self-driven car technology at its annual I/O conference later this month.
The tech giant said the cars are “very capable” and that it is working with other automakers to develop “the ultimate vehicle.”
The announcement comes amid concerns about the safety of autonomous vehicles and public backlash over the deaths of two pedestrians who were struck by a Google self-balancing bike during a test drive in February.
The accident prompted Google to recall its selfdriving cars and a major recall of some of its self tolling vehicles.
